OUR TOWN

SUPPORTING

Making a DIFFERENCE

Since moving to Borrego Springs from Santa Barbara in 1980, Bill Wright has been a “champion of all things good in Borrego Springs,” according to the Borrego Sun.

Wright and his wife, Jenny, loved the natural beauty of Borrego Springs. They soon purchased the Roadrunner Club RV park and subsequently built The Springs at Borrego, a high-end RV retreat, which they continued to operate until selling both properties in 2017. The Wrights have given back generously to the community, supporting a wealth of charitable endeavors and projects to benefit the public.

  • Started the town’s iconic Circle of Art celebration of desert art and the environment, held each year on Christmas Circle in the heart of Borrego Springs.

  • Donated 26 acres to benefit the community on a site that now includes the newly opened Borrego Springs branch of the County Library.

  • He designed, financed, and built The Springs Dog Park in the community.

  • Hosted a thank-you party and concert for the community at the Borrego Springs Performing Arts Center.

  • Commissioned a feasibility study to build a full-service senior center surrounded by senior housing to meet the needs of Borrego’s aging residents.

THE MISSION CONTINUES

Daniel Wright is a longtime Borrego Springs community leader and philanthropist whose work reflects a strong commitment to thoughtful growth and community well-being. As Honorary Mayor of Borrego Springs and a member of the Borrego Springs Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, he continues his family’s tradition of service.

Daniel has played a leading role in the Village Campus Development, an initiative of the Wellsprings Community Foundation designed to bring essential services closer to residents. Plans include a new fire station, a community health clinic, and affordable housing for seniors and local workers.

His vision carries forward the legacy of his late father, Bill Wright, who dreamed of creating a central community hub for Borrego Springs. The Wright family has also donated land for important public projects, including the Borrego Springs Library, which opened in 2018.

Through civic leadership, philanthropy, and long-term planning, Daniel continues to help shape a stronger and more connected Borrego Springs.

Building a STRONGER Borrego Springs, One Home at a Time

Wellsprings Community Foundation is working to create affordable homes for retirees and local workers who want to continue living and thriving in Borrego Springs. Thanks to the generous donation of land in the heart of the community, near the library, county park, and new fire station, this vision is becoming a reality.

Together, we can help ensure that the people who make Borrego Springs special have a place to call home. Have questions or want to learn more? We’d love to hear from you! Give us a call or send us an email.

Affordable Housing

A structural market gap of approximately 1,700 to 1,800 housing units; a large share is seasonal or short-term rentals. There is no purpose-built affordable multifamily rental housing in Borrego Springs.

Aging in Place

An aging population with nowhere to go. More than 40% of residents are 65 or older, with a median age of 60, nearly double the county average. Low-income retirees face rising costs of aging homes, with no affordable rental options available in the community. We offer a solution!

Local Workers

A workforce in a housing crisis. Hospitality, services, trades, and public employees, many Hispanic or Latino, earning below 80% AMI, live in overcrowded or unstable conditions. Survey data show some residents would leave entirely if affordable housing is not developed.
